Noor is an incorporated private New Zealand company that aims to link the Middle East with New Zealand biotechnologically in areas related to nutritious foods, health, education, research and renewable energy. Noor is the brainchild of Mohammed Alqumber, the Otago University graduate and researcher and the son of Abdullah Bin Ali Alqumber. Noor, an Arabic word, means “light” and “knowledge that enables one to move forward”. Noor has grown out of the large-scale developmental and educational activities carried out by Saudi Arabian agriculturalist Ali Bin Hassan Alqumber and his sons. Ali possessed the skills to convert the desert into an oasis; throughout his lifetime, blocks of desert were transformed into date palm plantations. Ali’s son, Abdullah Ali Alqumber, continued this fertile tradition.

Noor’s incorporation in November 2006 marked a centenary of anti-desertification work achieved through the skills inherited from the late Ali Bin Hassan Alqumber.
